More than 10,000 students are enrolled at Saginaw Valley State University, with more than 1,000 in the Business and Management College and more than 1,100 in the Science, Engineering and Technology College. SVSU has a number of accreditations that include the American Chemical Society and the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Some of the solar related programs of study available at Saginaw Valley State Unviersity are:
Mathematics - The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with Teacher Certification, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computational Mathematics. Minors are also available in each of these areas.
Chemistry - A variety of degree options are available in Chemistry at SVSU, including concentrations in chemistry, biochemistry, business chemistry, chemical physics, and chemistry teacher certification.
Electrical & Computer Engineering - SVSU’s major in Electrical Engineering leads to the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E.) degree. Majors must choose one of the following two areas in which to concentrate (choice may be made after the first year of coursework):
Engineering Technology Management - The goal of the Engineering Technology Management (ETM) program is to add value to the associate’s degree (see Transfer Programs) held by selected degree candidates so that they may perform more effectively in the modern industrial workplace.
Mechanical Engineering - The SVSU Mechanical Engineering program is structured around the themes of lifelong learning; engineering theory; product design; experimental/hands-on skills; and professional practice. Students are educated in the fundamental technical areas of mechanical and electrical engineering, including the foundation of mathematics, computational skills, and physical science, appropriate for an entry level professional position or graduate school. Students develop the skills inherent in the design process, including the ability to identify problems, investigate creative and functional solutions, effectively communicate results and work in a collaborative environment.
Physics - SVSU’s Optical Physics program is among the strongest in the nation. Physics professors involve undergraduate students in research opportunities, even in other undergraduate-only institutions. Physics students have published the results of their research in the top professional journals. Faculty members offer professional connections for paid summer research opportunities at other universities.
General Business - The College of Business and Management (CBM) focuses on developing critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills. The General Business program emphasizes a hands-on, “real world” approach combined with interaction with area business leaders, entrepreneurs, and other students. Students in the Business program will have enriching experiences even before they graduate.
Management - The management program seeks to promote the development of potential executives for business, government and other organizations. The program permits a student to gain an understanding of management techniques, while acquiring a broadly-based general education. Students may select a major in management as well as a more specialized major in industrial management. A management minor also is offered. Students selecting any major offered in the management area are expected to develop the verbal and quantitative skills and the knowledge of human behavior necessary for success in a management career.
International Business - The globalization of business offers unprecedented opportunities to individuals with a combined background of business and foreign language. SVSU’s International Business program was developed and initial resources were obtained by a 1996 grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
SVSU also offers a number of advanced Graduate degrees.
