Vice President Joe Biden to attend Dow Kokam groundbreaking June 21

Vice President Joe Biden will be joining Dow executives, business, political and community leaders in Midland for the Dow Kokam advanced battery plant groundbreaking on June 21.

Dow officials issued a statement that they are "extremely excited and honored" that Biden has elected to come.

"He and the Obama Administration, along with the state of Michigan, have been instrumental in bringing the project to this stage, and we are looking forward to sharing more details about this and a host of other green tech initiatives Dow has underway with the Vice President when he is here," the statement read.

"These projects highlight the type of economic development and job creation that is occurring in mid-Michigan, and how Dow, through its many technological innovations, is helping to build the new Michigan economy."

Construction of the Dow Kokam advanced battery facility is expected to create as many as 1,000 construction jobs in the area over the next two years.

Dow Kokam expects to add 320 permanent positions once the first phase of construction is completed in 2012.
