Delta College

Delta College hosts the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center regional office. The Center has certified consultants who work with small business and entrepreneurs helping with their business plan, with implementing their plan and improving their business performance. Businesses can also access training and research services at the Center. These services are provided at low or no cost. Three Business Resources Centers are located throughout Mid-Michigan and equipped with computer labs, business software packages, and a business reference library.

Saginaw Valley State University

Center for Rapid Prototyping and Innovation —The first research center in Michigan with the ability to work with ferrous metals, aluminum and plastic. The Center can produce prototypes from ferrous materials, constructing parts directly out of ferrous or aluminum materials and eliminate the multi-part plastic process. The Center is staffed with senior engineering students and is able to serve large manufacturers, small companies, and entrepreneurs.

Independent Testing Lab — An integral part of the Saginaw Valley's manufacturing community for more than 20 years, the lab is equipped with the latest for physical testing, chemical testing, biological testing, microscopy and uses the American Society of Testing Materials procedures. Housed within SVSU's College of Science, Engineering and Technology, companies have access to faculty expertise and some of the brightest student minds.

Center for Manufacturing Improvement (CMI) — CMI provides resources for companies and entrepreneurs interested in commercializing their processes or training their staff. CMI is the Northeast Regional office of the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center (MMTC). It blends academia and manufacturing expertise to provide practical training in the latest technologies and management methods. Using a database of over 9,000 reports CMI can benchmark your company and create a confidential assessment of your competitive position – at no cost.

Mechanical Engineering Department — This department already has an excellent reputation and is gaining more state and national recognition for its active research projects in biomaterials, biofuels, alternative energy, manufacturing, composites, and rapid protytyping. The curriculum includes hands-on training in experimenting, acquiring, reducing, and analyzing data and prototyping systems. During their senior year, each student completes a design project on behalf of a local business that includes problem definition, design, purchasing, manufacturing, and testing. The program and has resulted in new products identified for manufacturing and ready to go to market.

Saginaw Valley Research and Development Corporation (SVRDC) — Housed in the Center for Business and Economic Development, the SVRDC works with area businesses and entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to reality and to the point of commercial viability. For twenty years, SVRDC has helped students, faculty, local businesses and entrepreneurs with product development and technology transfer.

Central Michigan University

CMU Research Corporation — A nonprofit organization located in nearby Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the corporation was established to advance innovation, research, and collaboration between the univeristy and the business community. Housed at the Center for Applied Research and Technology, the corporation helps start-up businesses access resources, make use of its wet lab, design and prototyping professionals and other services. 

University of Michigan

The University of Michigan has campuses in Ann Arbor and Flint, Michigan, a short distance from the Mid-Michigan area. The Office of Technology Transfer has resources for inventors, industry, entrepreneurs, and students. Michigan State University

Also close to the Mid-Michigan region, MSU's Office for Research and Graduate Studies has research and technology transfer programs in the following fields: biochemistry, chemistry, medicine, earth sciences, energy, manufacturing, component materials, and more.

Wayne State University

Wayne State Office of Technology Commercialization is responsible for the intellectual property developed by WSU faculty. A goal of the Office is to improve technology transfer services and provide the highest  quality research assistance. Located either on or near the main campus is TechTown Research & Technology Park, and the Venture Development Office which supports early-state technology companies.
