Dow Corning Solar Solutions Applications Center
May 2008 – Dow Corning launched a Solar Solutions Application Center in Freeland, MI
- Collaborates with customers to develop, evaluate and pilot materials solutions used to manufacture solar panels
- $3 million investment – 27,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility
- Includes a laboratory, pilot equipment and testing facilities
- 2009 & 2010 - $6.5 million invested and 25 new jobs
Dow Corning Monosilanes Facility
Announced in December 2008
- Located adjacent to Hemlock Semiconductor facility in Saginaw County
- Will produce specialty gas used to manufacture thin-film solar cells and LCDs
- June 2011 - multi-million dollar investment nearly complete
Dow Solar Solutions
December 2009 – The Dow Chemical Company announced that Midland is the preferred site for the first full-scale production facility for the DOW™ POWERHOUSE™ Solar Shingle, subject to finalizing local, state and federal funding
- June 2011 - the project is under construction with investment totaling more than $167 Million and over 1,200 jobs to the region by 2014
- Local, state and federal funding will help Dow Solar Solutions accelerate production plans for the solar shingles already being manufactured in the existing small-scale market development plant at Michigan Operations
- In November 2009, TIME Magazine named the DOW™ POWERHOUSE™ Solar Shingle one of the 50 Best Inventions of 2009
- Dow invested $50 million to bring together solar energy generation materials and design of commercial and residential building materials
- They constructed a state-of-the-art development plant and R&D facility at Michigan Operations that created 22 high-skills positions
DK Advanced Battery Group
Joint venture between Dow Chemical and Kokam America
- 800,000-square-foot lithium polymer battery manufacturing facility
- Anticipated $665 million investment
- 600 total new jobs anticipated; 350 during Phase I
- First phase anticipated to be online by the first half of 2012; second phase dependent upon additional funding sources
- When completed, the facility will produce enough batteries to supply 60,000 hybrid or electric vehicles per year

Dow Business Process Service Center
- The Dow Chemical Company and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. are investing $12.5 million to establish a Business Process Service Center
- Core business services including financial consulting, order
processing, information technology and other services
- The project will create 500 jobs during its initial phase, with 750 additional jobs expected to be created in subsequent phases
- Anticipated $45 million investment
Styron
Formed in 2010 following its sale from The Dow Chemical Company to Bain Capital Partners
- Leading global materials company that brings together plastics, rubber and latex businesses
- North America Operations Center (NAOC) to be based in Midland
- Will retain approximately 180 local jobs
- Total investment in the region will be up to $13 million through 2015
- The Great Lakes Bay Region continues to be Styron’s largest U.S. location
Midland Solar Applications
Full-service research, design, install, startup and operate photovoltaic solar company
- Special emphasis on reduction of “Balance of System” costs via low-cost racking system designs and installation techniques
- Have designed and installed PV arrays for businesses, utilities, nonprofits and residential applications ranging in size from 2 KW to 152 KW.
Dow Corning Midland Plant
December 2006 – Michigan Strategic Fund approves the creation of a Michigan Renaissance Zone on Dow Corning Michigan Plant property.
- 775 acres of the site
- As part of the Ren Zone agreement, Dow Corning is obligated to maintain its employment base of 1,137 people at the Midland Plant and add an additional 50 people by the end of 2010 while investing at least $180 million at the site
Solar Valley Research Enterprise
The Michigan Strategic Fund approved funding for this Photovoltaic Center of Energy Excellence
- Will bring industry and academia together to speed innovation through real time collaboration and reduce the cost per kilowatt hour of solar power.
- Dow Corning Corporation, Hemlock Semiconductor Corporation, University of Toledo and other partners are seeking federal funding through the US Department of Energy to match a commitment made by the MEDC – through the 21st Century Jobs Fund to help support the development of this research center.
Merrill Technologies Group 
- In December, 2010, an announcement that the Michigan Public Service Commission, Consumers Energy, Merrill Technologies Group, Northern Power and Heritage Sustainable Energy entered into an agreement to produce 13 2.2MW direct drive wind turbines at Merrill’s Buena Vista Township location.
- The agreement calls for the turbines to be 100% assembled in Michigan.

- The H Hotel – Renovation and construction of Dow Learning Center - $35 million investment with 30 jobs created
- Morley Companies investing $7 million and will add 911 jobs
- Nexteer Automotive is the former Saginaw Steering Gear/Delphi Steering operation and employs 3,500 workers. The company has more than 500 engineers developing technology and patents here in the U.S. and recently announced the hiring of 100 additional engineers
- Dow Corning Health Industries Materials Site (HIMS) will invest $3.53 million over the next two years that will result in the retention on 10 jobs at the site.
- Eovations, LLC - $16 million investment in polymer-based wood replicaiton technology
- Midland Country Club new building - $35 million investment with 10 new jobs created
- Thomas Township Renewable Energy Park planned and ready for construction near Hemlock Semiconductor
- New MBS International Airport terminal underway - $48 million project
